We found many resources in helping fight for changes in CPSIA (the law to take effect on Feb 10, 2009- that would crush those that sell and buy items for children especially used or handmade ones).
If you don’t know what this law is all about please read our blog post for a summary:
If you haven’t heard, there is a new national law set to go into effect February 10th, 2009. This law among other things bans used toys & clothes that were made before February 10th, 2009 from being sold. The new law could also apply to clothes, books, furniture — anything marketed to children.
This can effect many groups of people: homeschoolers, small businesses like consignment shops and stores like “Once Upon A Child, charitable organizations such as the Salvation Army, the Native American community, people who make extra money selling on Ebay and other websites, artisans like the Amish, others who make homemade crafts for kids or kids clothing (possibly many who read our holiday craft list), publishers, toy collectors, possibly libraries,… Can’t sell online, at a garage sale, church rummage sale? Will we even be able to give items away?
There is a coalition against this law as it stands, this includes:
The National Association of Manufacturers
- American Apparel & Footwear Association
- Association of American Publishers
- Book Manufacturers Institute, Inc.
- Fashion Jewelry Trade Association
- Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association
- National Association of Manufacturers
- National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers
- National Retail Federation
- Retail Industry Leaders Association
- Printing Industries of America
- Specialty Graphic Imaging Association
- Toy Industry Association
- Fashion-Incubator.com
